Mundum Trek

The name “Mundum” is originally derived from the Kirat Rai language. The Kirat Rai people are one of the ethnic groups of Nepal. “Mun” stands for creation and “dum” means tale; therefore, this trekking region is connected to Kirat Rai history and carries a spiritual sentiment. This trek is fairly new and is not well-equipped with facilities like homestays or teashops.

The highest viewpoint of this trek is Silichung Peak (4200m). On clear days, trekkers can observe magnificent views of the mountain ranges spanning from Kanchenjunga to Gaurishankar. This region is also a sanctuary for many endangered flora and fauna such as the red panda, musk deer, thar, magnolia, and orchid, as well as many high-altitude herbs. Trekkers can also find themselves swimming in the natural ponds and streams of the rhododendron-filled Mundum region. If you’re looking for a fully self-sufficient trek with nights under the stars, an organized camping trip is recommended.
